We are a 2-form entry school with a published admission number of 420.  We admit 60 children into each year group.

Starting school in September 2021

 

Children reach compulsory school age at the beginning of term after their fifth birthday. The children due to be admitted in any academic year are those born between: 1st September and the following 31st August. It is our policy to admit all of the children in the Autumn Term of the academic year in which they reach the age of five years.

The school follows the Kent Local Authority admission process for admission to Reception Year.

The process for applying to the local authority – Kent County Council begins in about November/December in the academic year before your child would be due to start school.

Criteria for Admissions

 

East Stour is a community school with a Nursery offering education to children from 3 to 11 years. Should our school be oversubscribed the admissions criteria, as laid down by the local authority, these will be applied in the following order:

  • Children who are in care
  • Children who have a Statement of Educational Need. (If your child has SEN their statement or education, health and care plan will recommend a school for them. If you apply there, the school must give your child a place.)
  • Children who have a brother or sister (sibling) attending the school
  • Children for whom we are the nearest school
  • Children for whom we are not the nearest school.In exceptional circumstances the Head Teacher may give priority places to children who have medical or social needs.

If you are looking to place your child in East Stour after they have started school somewhere else, you will need to phone the school and speak to Mrs Saxby in the school office, to register your interest in a place. There may be a waiting list for some year groups but you will be advised of this.

We would be happy to show you around our school at a mutually agreed time, we welcome visits from prospective parents during the working day. We feel that visiting us at this time allows you to meet both staff and children and see first-hand what our school has to offer your child.

Schools are now responsible for allocating places to prospective pupils.

The school’s criteria for being offered a place is:

Current family association (an older brother or sister in the school at the time of entry).
Nearness of children’s homes and ease of access to schools.

Nursery Places

 

You can apply for a place in the Nursery at any time, please either contact Mrs Saxby by phone on 01233 630820 or return by email to admin@east-stour.kent.sch.uk a nursery application form.

Places are allocated according to our waiting list. Children who are 4 years old will be given preference in the first instance.

We offer 30 hours to those who are eligible or the universal entitlement of 15 hours for every child the term after their 3rd birthday.

If you are entitled to 30 hours funding you must apply for your 30 hours eligibility code the term before your child becomes eligible by age.
