PE at East Stour Primary School
At East Stour we love PE! We aim to provide the best opportunities for children to develop their physical competence, confidence, and ability to perform in a range of activities. We teach awareness of the effect exercise has on their bodies and promote positive attitudes towards active and healthy lifestyles. To further improve pupils’ fitness, we have introduced the Daily Mile, whereby each child runs for fifteen minutes each day, whatever the weather! Play times are now active too, with a variety of sports equipment for the children to play with. East Stour enters around 20 inter-school tournaments each year, giving the children a taste of both competitive sport and being part of a team. In 2018 years 3, 4 and 5 have benefitted from specialised weekly coaching from Kent Cricket and Charlton FC. Children have the opportunity to attend after school clubs such as; Sports Leaders, football, wake and shake, yoga, cricket and netball.
The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:
Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
Are physically active for sustained periods of time
Engage in competitive sports and activities
Lead healthy active lifestyles
Swim 25 metres
East Stour receives around £18000 in sports premium funding.
